| Youthful exuberance |
We will be discussing the talented superstars that have arisen from Belgium. The team that has a variety of players who are ruling the world at the moment. The last time Belgium played in the World Cup was back in 2002 and since then they have not participated, but they are one side that has to be going to Brazil in 2014 because they can compete with the best of them out there, without a shadow of a doubt.
The country has not performed brilliantly at the world stage but this time around the story can be quite different.
The talent at their disposal is immense. We will be discussing the players that can illuminate and maybe, possibly, create some bit of history at next year's World cup.
GOAL KEEPERS
THIBAUT COURTOUIS
Accolades:
- Genk Player of the Season 2010
- Belgium Pro League Goal keeper of the season 2010
- UEFA Europa League Winner
- UEFA Super Cup Winner
KRC Genk has a nag of producing talent. The academy that was built near the stadium in 2003 has produced one of the most brilliant talents on display with the likes of current vice captain David Hubert, Christian Benteke, Kevin De Bryune and Thibaout Coutruois who have been magnificent for their respective teams.
Chelsea grabbed him up 2 seasons ago, and if it was not for Cech, he may have been playing as the No. 1 Goal keeper for Chelsea. He is currently out on loan at La Liga Club, Athletico Madrid. and is arguably the best goal keeper in La Liga apart from Iker Casillas. Teams are looking at him and offering Chelsea decent sum for his services.
For his national side, he has had 7 appearances and looks ever comfortable. He is the one who is possibly going to take the no.1 spot for goalkeeping at his national side and there is no way Belgium will regret that. He has been described as athletic, brilliant in judging the play and acting accordingly. He has only conceded only one goal in the Qualification Stages for World Cup 2014 as Belgium top the group and look to cruise to the World Cup.
SIMON MIGNOLET
Accolades:
- North East Football Writers’ Association’s player of the year for 2012.
The Sunderland custodian has been in fine form in the premier league keeping 9 clean sheets which is just behind Hart, Cech, Begovic and equal with Reina. His array of performances has kept Sunderland in contention for another season in the premier league and has produced decent performances for his National side as well. He is giving Courtouis a tough competition as both are young and impeccably talented. Either of them is first choice goal keeper. Having not participated in any of the Qualification matches so far, he will be looking to impress when ever he gets the chance.
Having now spent three years at Sunderland, he has been very good when ever he has been given the responsibility. He kept 11 clean sheets last season to completely take over from Craig Gordon, and prior to that kept 8 clean sheets albeit he did not start as many games as he would have liked. He is progressing well and may be moving to a bigger club in the summer transfer window as he is the best asset for Sunderland currently.
