England demolishes San Marino; World Cup qualifier
A Devastating Win for
England over San Marino in World Cup qualifier, As they thrashed San
Marino by 8 goals to nil.
England put in a professional performance against San Marino to run out 8-0 winners in their 2014 World Cup qualifier. Alessandro Della Valle scored an Own goal and gave England 1 goal lead at the 12th minute as Wayne Rooney raced into the box. The own goal was soon followed by one from Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, The early own goal by Della Valle did’nt help the home side and after Defoe made it 3-0 after 35 minute, it was all over.
But England weren’t
finished yet after Young crashed a
spectacular 35-yard drive in off the underside of the crossbar for his first
goal of the season. Three minutes before half-time Lampard got in on the act,
with the Chelsea midfielder marking his 95th appearance and made the score 5-0.
The Manchester United striker was clearly desperate to get his name on
the scoresheet and clipped a magnificent 25-yard free-kick over the wall
and past a helpless Aldo Simoncini. San Marino tried couple of shoots
but all of them were off target.
At the 70th
minute Roy Hodgson made a substitute and replaced Ashley Young with Daniel
Sturridge, who made his first international appearance and scored a beautiful
header. 7minute after Sturridge’s goal Defoe made it 8 for England and won the
match.
Everyone knows San Marino
have won only once in their 214 matches in their entire history, against
Liechtenstein in 2004.
