Return of the Fascinating League: Stats and Key points from GW1 of the EPL

The wait is over as the big boys are back into action and that too with a bang. High-quality football was on display as the season started with a hard fought win for Liverpool and Sunday ended by Chelsea cruising to a 2-0 win over Hull. We will take a look at some of the stats of the first few games, not to forget 2 games are still to be played, and also some key moments from the first games.

STATS

Goals Scored: 21
Biggest Victory Margin: Swansea 1 - 4 Manchester United
No. of Clean Sheets: 6
1 Red Card

Surprisingly, this was not a treat for fans who want to see goals, goals and goals, as 9 games produced just over 2 goals a game, with 6 teams ended up with clean-sheets, pretty impressive stats for the defense. Only three games produced over 3 goals.

Aston Villa was the only side which caused an upset by beating Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium. Laurent Koscienly became the first victim of a red card(controversial as the Gunners' fan say), and also we saw decent test of goal-line technology on Alan McGregor's save from Ivanovic in in the Chelsea win over Hull at the Bridge.

Away victories came for Fulham(surprise), Southampton(even bigger surprise), Spurs and Manchester United. There was just one draw in the 9 games played, 4 home wins, 4 away wins were equally shared.

RvP sits happily on top of the goalscorers' chart with a brace against Swansea indicating he is far from losing his top touch and form, no wonder people are kissing his left foot especially after that strike against Swansea for his second goal. Torres did not score but linked up the play well while Benteke has announced a "come and get me" plea by scoring twice against the Gunners on their home soil. Teams who are looking to splash cash for a CF, here is your man.

Another interesting stat was that none of the newly promoted side were able to score a goal, not surprising to say then that all of them lost.

Simon Mignolet, Wojiech Szczesny and Alan McGregor saved a penalty each while Fulham played both of their Goalkeepers, Stockdale came on for injured Sketelenburg.
