Erik Lamela vs Borges Willian: Two captures, Comparison!

The two midfielders have chosen their destinations with one choosing Chelsea while the other chose Spurs and now we have two very exciting young talents at the helm of each club. We will take a look at how they compare and who got the bigger coup of this little scuffle. As Willian was linked with a move to Spurs before Abramovich used his Russian links to capture his man and then Spurs finalized Lamela as an alternate.

Calculating the games to goals ratio, we deduce that Lamela has a Game to Goal Ration (GGR) of a goal every 4th game, and for Willian it rises up to almost a goal every 5th game, point to be noted here is the number of matches both have played so far in their career. Lamela is still very young so that GGR is bound to improve as time goes on, the main advantage although that Willian has is his whopping number of assists which are just 6 less than the overall career assists for Gareth Bale( now valued at 90m). So, if stats are to go by it is very easy to suggest that Lamela can turn out to be a premier goal-scorer while Willian is your sit behind the striker provider type of a player. Both are not well-known in the air or for their defensive work rate so that might be an issue as far as the physicality of the English game is concerned but their flair cancels out this weakness as they do know how to escape from tense situations.

STYLE GAME

Erik Lamela is primarily a forward who can play at all three positions, that is center, left and right, while Willian's best position is described as sitting just behind the main striker and feeding balls in and around the CF.

To illustrate how the two players here is a bit of a compilation of the two:

Borges Willian is up first:

If he is a Brazilian; there is bound to be some samba to it, we just saw some flashes of it up there!

And this is Erik Lamela at his finest:

That is some left-foot from the lad, isn't it?

IMPACT

The Chelsea Midfield:

We have already discussed this in a previous post as to how it will be a bit difficult for Borges Willian to cement his place in the Chelsea XI as it is flooded with talent currently and he is competing with the likes of Mata and Oscar for the place behind the striker, and even if Mata is shifted towards the flanks that would mean even lesser playing time for guys like KdB and Schurrle. For Willian to stamp his authority on that squad he needs to really come all guns blazing in the coming games and adapt as quickly as he can to the English game.

The Spurs Opportunity:

With Bale almost as good as gone, Adebayor not in AVB's plans, Defoe relegated to being a squad option, Soldado is the only one who can play in the forward areas and he too is restricted to the center only. Erik Lamela's verstality will provide spurs with an added dimension and surely he will be mainstay of the team. He can adjust himself to the 4-2-3-1 AVB likes to play and he can be of extra utility if AvB decides to go with the 4-3-3. Erik Lamela might just be the piece missing in Spurs' UCL qualification jiggsaw.

TRANSFER MARKET VERDICT

Both are almost bought at the same value of around the 30m mark so there isn't much in there in terms of money. The debate is still on about whether Chelsea required another midfielder or should they have splashed such amount of cash on an out and out striker. On the other experts and pundits have already called Lamela a major improvement and a must-buy for Spurs. The transfer pressure has to be more on Willian as his place in next years' world cup is also on the line while for Lamela this is a start of a new journey and the style that Spurs will play also suits him to his maximum. Markets are tipping Lamela to be a bigger success story at Spurs than Willian will be at Chelsea.
